Sundlaugin Borgarnesi
The swimming pool in Borgarnes is located in the town’s sports center, where you can find a wide range of facilities for swimming and fitness. There is both a 25-meter outdoor pool with five lanes and a 12.5-meter indoor pool. The area includes three water slides, a children’s wading pool, two hot tubs – one with power massage – and a special whirlpool with massage jets. There is also a steam bath that uses water directly from Deildartunguhver, and a sauna. The outdoor area offers good facilities for sunbathing. The swimming pool is accessible for people with disabilities, with an elevator between floors and specially equipped changing rooms. In addition, there is a fitness facility on site with a weight training room, a sports hall, and an aerobics room. A sports instructor is employed there and offers guests guidance in the weight training room free of charge, as well as water aerobics and baby swimming. The swimming pool was opened on June 17, 1955, after extensive preparatory work. The idea of a swimming pool in Borgarnes first emerged in the 1930s, but construction did not begin until 1952. It was originally built for the activities of the town’s youth association, but was handed over to Borgarnes municipality after a few years, as its use was primarily focused on school swimming and public swimming. Today, the swimming pool in Borgarnes is a popular stop for both locals and travelers, offering diverse facilities for people of all ages.
