The swimming pool was opened on June 17, 1955, after extensive preparatory work. The idea of a swimming pool in Borgarnes first emerged in the 1930s, but construction did not begin until 1952. It was originally built for the activities of the town’s youth association, but was handed over to Borgarnes municipality after a few years, as its use was primarily focused on school swimming and public swimming.
