Sundlaugin á Flúðum

The swimming pool in Flúðir is a 25-metre outdoor pool with two hot tubs, a cold tub, a natural steam bath and an infrared cabin. The pool is part of the municipality’s sports facilities and uses geothermal energy from the surrounding area. The facilities are simple but offer all the main amenities needed for swimming and bathing all year round. Flúðir is a growing village in Hrunamannahreppur and lies on the Golden Circle, less than 100 km from the capital area. The region is known for its lush horticulture, abundant geothermal energy and pleasant summer weather. There are numerous horticultural stations in the area, and fresh vegetables can often be bought directly from the farm, for example at Litla bændabúðin (“The Little Farmers’ Shop”). Near the swimming pool there is a variety of accommodation options, including hotels, guesthouses, home stays and a campsite. Restaurants in the area place emphasis on ingredients sourced locally. Leisure activities nearby include golf (the 18-hole course Selsvöllur), frisbee golf, horse riding, museums and various types of outdoor recreation. In the vicinity of the pool there are also other bathing spots, such as Secret Lagoon (the Old Pool in Flúðir) and Hrunalaug. The hot water and natural hot springs make the area an interesting destination for all enthusiasts of Iceland’s pool culture. Flúðir is well located for those who wish to visit natural attractions such as Gullfoss, Geysir and Brúarhlöð, which are less than a half-hour drive away.
