Svalbarðsströnd Swimming Pool

Svalbarðsstrandar Swimming Pool is located at Svalbarðseyri in Svalbarðsstrandarhreppur, a short distance east of Akureyri. It is operated by the municipality and is part of the area’s sports and leisure activities. The main outdoor pool is 6 x 12.5 metres with a depth ranging from about 0.8–1.2 metres. On site there is one hot tub and traditional changing rooms and shower facilities. Water circulation in the pool is such that the water is renewed about 1.25 times per day, which reduces the need for chlorine for disinfection. The pool is open to the public during the summer months and is used both by residents of the municipality and by visitors travelling through Eyjafjörður. It plays a role in the local sports and social activities, including for children and young people.
