Selárlaug Swimming Pool

Selárlaug is a swimming pool in East Iceland, located on the banks of the river Selá where the river runs through a shallow gorge. The pool is about 12 km from the town of Vopnafjörður and stands in a green, sheltered environment near a natural hot spring that was previously used directly to fill the pool. Today, water from the spring is used for heating. The area includes a swimming pool, a spacious hot tub, a children’s pool and a large sun deck, as well as facilities for guests to eat their packed meals. Access for people with reduced mobility is good, and the pool is also used for swimming lessons during the autumn and spring months. Selárlaug was built in the summer of 1949 by members of the youth association Einherji in Vopnafjörður and was inaugurated in 1950. Its construction was largely carried out as volunteer work, and the pool has since been regularly renovated and maintained.
