Reykjanes Ísafjarðardjúpi

The swimming pool at Reykjanes in Ísafjarðardjúp is part of the historical surroundings in this remote area of the Westfjords. The pool is an outdoor pool, unusually large by Icelandic standards, a full 50 x 12.5 meters, and heated with natural geothermal water that flows continuously into the pool all year round. The pool stands next to what used to be the local school, which now houses a hotel and other accommodation. By the pool there is an old steam bath, often called the green steam bath, which has remained unchanged for decades and is especially popular among guests and locals. A sun deck and benches have also been installed in the pool, where the water temperature is sometimes so high that it is almost more like a hot tub. The facilities are simple and unpretentious but well maintained. By the pool there are neat changing rooms and showers. In the area there is also a gym with all the main equipment. The swimming pool and surroundings at Reykjanes form a unique whole – a geothermal area, history, tranquility, and views out over Ísafjarðardjúpið. Reykjanes is about 500 meters from the main road, and there is also an airstrip and a pier.
