Reykjafjarðarlaug Swimming Pool

Reykjafjarðarlaug is a spacious concrete outdoor pool in Reykjarfjörður by Arnarfjörður, located on Route 63 between Bíldudalur and Flókalundur. The pool was built in 1938, rebuilt in 1988, and has been a popular stop for travelers passing through the Westfjords. Hot geothermal water flows into the pool all year round, and beside it are changing rooms with showers that were built in 1990, as well as a hot tub and a shelter wall that were added in 2003–2004. The pool is about 20 meters long and 1.2–1.8 meters deep. The temperature is even and comfortable, around 32°C. Just above the swimming pool there is also a small natural pool, built up with stones, where the water is hotter, about 40–45°C. The natural pool offers a unique experience in a natural environment with views over the fjord and surrounding mountains. Reykjafjarðarlaug is open to the public and free of charge, but visitors are encouraged not to leave anything behind and to treat the area with care. Voluntary donations can be placed in a collection box by the pool. The surroundings of Reykjafjarðarlaug are remote and offer tranquility, natural beauty, and relaxation in one of the most beautiful areas of the Westfjords.
