Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach

The geothermal beach at Nauthólsvík is a unique bathing spot where sea swimming in cold ocean water and relaxation in a hot tub come together. By the man-made beach in the cove there is a hot tub in the tidal zone (30–39°C), but access to it is controlled by the tides. There is also a 38°C hot and long pool which serves both as a hot tub and a wading pool, offering views over the sea and Kársnes. Geothermal water rising from a pipeline helps keep the seawater within the enclosure warm during the summer. You can also enjoy a steam bath, which is especially pleasant after a cold dip in the sea. On site there is a service center with changing rooms, showers, and a snack bar offering soft drinks, ice cream, and sweets. The lifeguarded area of the beach covers a defined zone within the breakwater, and good access is provided for people with reduced mobility. In recent years the geothermal beach has become extremely popular and attracts over half a million visitors annually. The area offers different experiences depending on the season, from sunbathing in summer to cold sea baths in winter.
