Lýsulaugar Mineral Algae Baths

Lýsulaugar are natural bathing pools in Staðarsveit on the southern side of Snæfellsnes, next to the elementary school at Lýsuhóll. The pool is filled with hot mineral water directly from the ground and is considered one of the main health spas in the area. The water is very rich in minerals, especially magnesium and calcium, and contains the green algae chlorella, which gives it a green color and is believed to have healing effects. No disinfectants are used; the cleanliness of the pool is based on natural continuous flow. The pools were renovated in 2019 and now consist of one main swimming pool, two hot tubs, and one cold tub. The water temperature in the pool fluctuates between 24–35°C depending on the weather and conditions. The location offers a unique view of Snæfellsjökull, which makes the experience even more magnificent. The pool is open from June until mid-August. Additional opening times and exceptions are announced on the Facebook page or the website of Lýsulaugar. Children under ten years of age are only allowed access when accompanied by a swimming individual who is at least fifteen years old and bears full responsibility for the child. Admission fees are waived from the age of 67, and disabled guests get free entry upon presenting an ID card. Discount cards are valid for both Lýsulaugar and the swimming pool in Ólafsvík.
