Hreppslaug Swimming Pool

Hreppslaug is an outdoor swimming pool in Skorradalur in Borgarfjörður, a short distance from Hvanneyri and the Andakílsá power station. It is open during the summer months and operated by the municipality of Skorradalur, but the youth association Íslendingur built the pool in the years 1928–1929. Hreppslaug is protected under the Cultural Heritage Act and has special cultural and historical value, both as the first concrete swimming pool in Borgarfjörður and as a venue for social and sporting activities in the region for nearly a century. The pool is made of concrete and measures 10 x 25 meters. There are also two good hot tubs next to it. The water in the pool flows continuously, coming directly from natural springs in the hillside above. A new service building with new changing rooms was taken into use in 2022. Hreppslaug has been important for swimming instruction in the region over the years, and many have learned to swim there. It is renowned for its natural surroundings and the tranquility of the countryside. Visitors are encouraged to check the opening hours before setting off, as they may change depending on the weather and conditions.
