Heydalur

The swimming pool in Heydalur is part of the diverse and original tourist services at Heydalur in Mjóifjörður. The pool itself is indoors and located in a special greenhouse that was previously used as a sheep barn. There is also a cozy hot tub. The space is now filled with tropical plants such as grapevines, hazelnut trees and cherry trees, giving the area a special atmosphere that is unique in Iceland. The fruits that grow in the greenhouse are among other things used to make jam for hotel guests. Outside the greenhouse there are two handmade hot tubs. They are shaped from natural stone from the surroundings and filled with white shell sand, which gives the tubs a natural and raw appearance. The facilities are informal and simple, with emphasis on natural materials and understated design. Not far away you can also find a natural hot spring known as Galtarhryggslaug. Stories say that the pool is one of those that Guðmundur the Good blessed in his time, and that bathing in it was considered a remedy for various ailments. All access to pools and hot tubs in Heydalur is at your own risk and children must always be accompanied by adults. Access is included for those staying at the hotel or the campsite, while visitors not staying there pay an entrance fee.
