Húsafell Canyon Baths

Giljaböðin are natural geothermal baths located in Hringsgil, a short distance from Húsafell. Access to the baths is only via organized guided tours, where guests walk from the activity center in Húsafell along a forested trail down into the ravine. The route is about 1.5 km long and the entire excursion takes around two hours. In the ravine there are two pools with different temperatures, built from natural stone and filled with water from hot springs in the area. The baths are designed with the aim of blending into the environment and connecting to the local cultural heritage, including references to Snorralaug. The bathhouse and facilities are simple, built from timber sourced in the area, and even small details such as hooks are made from repurposed materials like horseshoes. During the tour, guests also learn about the environment and history of the area, including the glacier Ok and renewable energy. The view over the waterfall Langafoss and the landscape in the ravine makes the experience unique. Tours are offered all year round and must be booked in advance. Private tours for groups can be arranged for an additional fee. Guests need to bring swimsuits and towels, though these can also be rented at Húsafell. The walk is suitable for most people, but it is necessary to go down 64 steps to reach the baths, and conditions on the route may be affected by the weather.
