Ásvallalaug

Ásvallalaug is one of the largest swimming centres in the country and was opened in 2008. The pool is indoors and offers a 50-metre pool that is usually divided by a bridge, so half of it is 25 metres long. The swimming centre covers about 6,000 m² and also includes the fitness centre GYM heilsa, the physiotherapy clinic Ásmegin, and social facilities for the Hafnarfjörður Swimming Club and the sports club Fjörður. The facilities are very good for people with disabilities. A specially equipped lift of the Poolpod type, which was designed for the London 2012 Olympic Games, is available by the pool. In addition, there are accessible changing rooms, specially marked parking spaces, and stairs with handrails at all pools and hot tubs. Families also benefit from the diverse facilities. The pool includes a 17-metre children’s pool (90–110 cm deep), a 10-metre wading pool with toys, and a popular water slide. The temperature of the children’s pool is 32°C, while the main swimming pool is kept at 28°C. Indoors there are three hot tubs and a steam bath, while outdoors there are two hot tubs and sunbathing facilities. Activities in Ásvallalaug are varied and include, among other things, water polo, volleyball, diving practice, kayak training, baby swimming, water aerobics, and courses for expectant and new mothers. The pool is equally suitable for daily swim training, family time, or special events.
