Árbæjarlaug Swimming Pool

Árbæjarlaug, located in the Árbær district of Reykjavík, was opened on April 30, 1994 and is a modern swimming pool with a wide range of facilities for guests of all ages. The pool is situated by the outdoor recreation area in Elliðaárdalur, with access from Fylkisvegur, and offers views over the valley. The area features a 25-meter outdoor pool with a depth from 1.0 to 1.6 meters, a fun and distinctive indoor pool for children, a wading pool, and a water slide that is 33.5 meters long. The slide was renovated in 2015, and in the outdoor area you can also find fountains and various playground equipment for children. The pool has three hot tubs, including a recently installed massage tub with a control system, as well as a cold tub (8–12°C) located by the steam bath. An infrared sauna is also available, with separate rooms for each gender. The pool has placed emphasis on sustainability and produces pure chlorine from salt on-site, which is both healthier and more environmentally friendly. Water in the tubs and pools is filtered up to 100 times per day with sand filters and automatic chlorine systems. In the pool area there is a snack bar where you can buy light refreshments, cosmetics, and swimwear. Beach volleyball courts were installed in 2015 and are available for guests to rent. The building itself is distinctive for its glass domed roof over the indoor pool and garden. Árbæjarlaug is a popular destination for both city residents and tourists, with facilities suitable for families, swim training, and relaxation. It is part of the daily life of Reykjavík residents, with about 300,000 visits per year.
